Comparative Civilizations 12 looks at the interrelationships among art, culture, and civilization throughout the ages. This includes the differences between present-day different cultures as well as historic cultures. The course will look at the defining features of political, social, economic, and cultural structures. The examination of elements of culture such as belief systems, gender roles, and power and authority are also studied. Students will develop an appreciation of the basic concepts of art, culture, and civilization and their relationship to each other. They will examine how aesthetic inquiry; extension of critical and creative thinking skills lead to an appreciation of the diversity of world views and cultures and recognition of the values inherent in those cultures.

This unique and flexible course provides for lots of student choice and opportunities to explore specific area of interest.

PLEASE NOTE: Although assignments for this course can be submitted online, the course cannot be completed without the CD and this can only be viewed on a PC or on a MAC that can run Classic Mode (prior to OSX10.4). If you have a MAC with a newer operating system than this, you could run the CD's on the PC side (or with Boot Camp).
