ONLINE COURSE - Survey of Western Music History gives the student a general knowledge of the styles, composers, traditions, and techniques of over 700 years of musical development in the west.  From the foundation of music notation in the Medieval and Renaissance periods, through the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern periods, the major composers, forms and styles of each period will be learned through reading and active listening. 

Students will also learn how the composers' political, economic, social and psychological environment affected their compositions and how developing technology and music have affected each other.
