Getting Started

Thanks for choosing DESK. It is our goal to meet the individual needs of all learners in our programs. If you have questions at any time please contact us.

STEP 1: Review Your Computer
Technology plays a key role in distributed learning. In order to gain the full benefit of courses, you should take a moment to review your computer system. Is the operating system recent? Do you find it easy to send and receive e-mails with attachments? In general, a high-speed internet connection is recommended. Full computer software requirements are listed at the DESK online course portal - http://d2l.desk.bc.ca.

As students progress to upper-level classes, they may be required to participate in online discussions or watch course-related videos. A high-speed connection is crucial for such online experiences and should be considered before enrolling in courses that employ online participation.

Speakers will be needed to access online video and audio resources and a headset or microphone is also necessary to fully participate in all second language courses (French, German and Spanish).

STEP 2: Course and Learning Plan Consultation (optional)
If you are new to DESK, or have questions regarding a course or your program, please don't hestate to contact us.

A DESK teacher will be assigned to guide you through the K-9 program years. They will maintain regular contact to monitor your child's progress and give guidance based on your child's strengths and needs.

In Grades 10 through 12, an advisor will work with students to develop individual Learning Plans that both lead to the best opportunity for successful graduation and also prepare students for success in their post-secondary endeavours.

For some courses, a refundable textbook deposit fee is required. This fee is listed in the individual course descriptions, and will be procesed after the online Start-Up assignment is completed.
