REGISTRATION GRADES 8-9

When registering your child for classes in Grade 8 and Grade 9, follow the four steps outlined below:

(NOTE: If your Grade 8 or 9 student wishes to take a course at the Grade 10-12 level, please use the Grade 10-12 Registration form. The student must also complete an Initial Assignment for each course and complete a Graduation Plan and submit it to deskregistration@sd8.bc.ca (contact the Grade 10-12 counsellor if you need help with this).

Step 1

  • Collect your information. DESK may require a copy of your child's birth certificate, passport, or Landed Immigrant papers.
  • Copy of a recent report card.

Step 2

  • Complete the application form.
  • Provide basic demographic information.
  • Contact the teacher to develop the learning plan for you child. Your teacher may ask your child to do a couple of activities to help design the plan.

Step 3

  • Payment of a refundable deposit. A refundable textbook deposit is required -- $100 per student to a maximum of $150 for an entire family. You may pay by MasterCard, Visa, money order, or cheque made payable to DESK.

Step 4

  • Activate your course by completing and submitting your first assignment (typically submitted within the first three weeks).

Courses are free unless you are registered in your neighborhood school, in which case we will work together with your school to arrange a course at no cost to you except for the refundable deposit.

Commitment/Authorization
  • As a student, I make a formal commitment to work on my DESK courses and to complete assignments as directed.
  • I agree that work required will be completed and submitted as directed. Enrollment is valid for one year.
  • I understand that, as a student, I am not officially active if an assignment has not been submitted for each course. I understand that if I become inactive, then I may be withdrawn from the course.
  • I agree that all course materials received will be kept in good condition and returned upon request of the school. Lost or damaged materials will be subject to replacement costs.
